The term “K-pop” is a bullshit catch-all that invites generalization and discourages nuanced discussions of individual works. With K-pop still a fresh subject of discussion in mainstream American media, you get an English-language critical sphere that fails to examine the medium in its myriad forms and messages.
K-pop Comment sees K-pop as a rich, widely misunderstood medium with a knack for amalgamating universes of ideas into bite-sized pop spaces. We want to chart these universes; to place them in the context of their pedigrees and influences, to dissect them with an obsessive critical lens, and ultimately, to get as much out of this art as it yearns to give.
